Celebrating the FFA!

Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.

Since 1928 the FFA has been molding the lives of our children.  The impact this organization has is amazing and deserves to be celebrated.  The idea of service is something that gets lost in today’s society sometimes, along with the idea of teaching responsibility.  Both of these things are what we think are the most important lessons FFA teaches.  From stockmanship to volunteering, this is an organization that helps build character, teaches responsibility and honors students in a field that is sometimes forgotten:  Agriculture.  Ag teachers like Mr. Penford and regional advisor Dr. McCabe, in California who helped shape the life of our own Gypsy Sister Lorinda, to the current 540, 379 current members along with their Ag teachers/sponsors are all working hard within the FFA to accomplish the goals laid out before them.  They are working hard to promote agriculture, respect themselves and others, volunteer and give back when necessary but work toward a world that needs less charity.   I mean come on, how great is that?

We could go on and on and on about who important the FFA is and has been in our lives.  The shows, the judging competitions and the people are things that have stayed with us all of our lives and we truly don’t know who we would be without the FFA and the GREAT people that help make the FFA what it is.  So this week in honor of the FFA, do something to give back.  Volunteer.  Donate.  Heck, just call your local Ag teacher/sponsor and ask how you can help.  You can contact the FFA and donate to one of their MANY scholarship programs as well.  Here is an organization I think all FFA’ers will love…. ” I Love Farmers, They Feed My Soul”.  You might recognize them from their WTF campaign (Where’s The Food, Without The Farmer?).  I am gonna bet some of them are former FFA members!!

PS.  To all of you 4-H’ers, we haven’t forgotten about you and what you do!  We will celebrate with you in October during your National week!

This week is the Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show. There will be at least 500 FFA students showing their animal. We wish each of them the best of luck!!! Being the parent of a Senior FFA member, officer and FFA sweetheart, this week will be bittersweet. The FFA has helped create and mold a leader as well as mentor to her fellow members, youth and community. Go Katy FFA!
